In his book, "Photographing the Southwest, vol. 2", Laurent Martres has a couple of pictures taken from this location at Coyote Buttes South, one at sunset and another at sunrise. He gives the location of the shot only in vague terms. I went out looking for it and thought I had found it, but back at the truck I saw that I had not found the location, and my shot was inferior to his. So I stuffed the book in my pack and late in the afternoon went out looking again. By matching landmarks and features, and walking around and up, I found it.

Clouds rolled in as the sun was sinking. Later they became pink, but by then the light on the horizon was gone. In this shot, the fore- and mid-ground are already in shade. I have earlier shots as well, where the tips of the hills and teepees are in direct sunlight, but I like this one better.
