| Description |
English: The Mameluke rides (right to left) an ill-drawn galloping horse, holding the rein in his teeth. In his right hand is a sabre, with the left he fires a pistol; at his back is a quiver of arrows. Another pistol is thrust through his sash, from which hangs a sheath holding a battle-axe. The horse is curiously flecked in a manner which resembles a leopard-skin under the saddle. The title continues: 'from a Sketch by a French Officer by whom he was taken Prisoner'. Cf.
