uing his rides to the last day of his life, he came into the house after havingbeen over the farm, remarking that he was tired, sat down torest, and in a few moments was gone beyond the reach ofpain and weariness. George Washington Holstein, born loth of April, 1778;baptized January 15, 1779. His parents evidenced a spirit of pure patriotism andbravery in naming the boy without delay in honor of thegreat general who was at that very time encamped with hissoldiers six miles distant upon the hills of Valley Forge. When but a youth, in his i 8th year, he respondedto General Washingtons call for 15,000 men to suppress the Whiskey Insurrection, and was among the number whoproffered their services, and with his companions was sent to the seat of war; but before the advance party reached thescene of disturbance the insurgents had laid down their arms,and the volunteers returned to their homes. At the earnest solicitation of his father, George W. Hol-stein became a tiller of the soil, following the occupation ofhis father, and assisting him at the homestead farm.
