Preservation of traditions and cultures through food.

Summary edit

Description
English: The Appam is made of rice flour cooked like a pancake in a wok of specific dimensions to give it's distinctive shape. It is then topped with coconut milk giving it's soft melt in mouth centre while the edges remain crispy. The Appam is then garnished with palm sugar native to Sri Lanka to create this sweet appam version. Other varieties include plain and egg Appam. Traditionally the appam is served for breakfast as the carbohydrate from the rice flour provides fuel for hardworking farmers through the labor of their day back in homeland. This photo was taken in a Sri Lankan restaurant in the multicultural country Malaysia; reminding us of upholding of traditions despite emigration of forefathers decades ago, allowing the young generations and people of all colours and cultures to experience this dessert for breakfast!
