Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) encountered a very calm Pacific Ocean midway between Hawaii and the Philippines, circa in late July 1962. On orders of her commanding officer, Captain Bullard, the carrier was stopped and each duty section spent 30 minutes in the refreshing sea. The carrier continued her way west at sunset. Bon Homme Richard, with assigned Carrier Air Group 19 (CVG-19), was deployed to the Western Pacific from 12 July 1962 to 11 February 1963.
