AFFECTIONS OF THE SKIN. 121 layer is lost, the papillae are more or less flattened out,the fibres of the corium are separated, presumably bythe fluid effused, so that the individual fibres can bemade out. There is only a moderate small cell infil-tration, and this is almost exclusively round thevessels of the superficial plexus, with their papillarybranches; the capillaries and small arteries aremoderately dilated and both stuffed and surroundedby cells; in the walls of the capillaries are pro-minent nuclei. The adventitia of the larger vesselscontains round and spindle cells as first described byBiesiadecki. There is slight cell effusion around thehair, sebaceous follicles, and sweat ducts, when theylie in the upper part of the corium, but the sweatglands and all the structures in the deep part of thecorium are normal.
