In the healing of these ulcers, some amountof contraction is likely to take place, but the constric-tion from this cause would be situated close to the anusand only slight in character. There would likewise becicatrices or other marks of ulceration around the anus.It is, however, supposed by some authors that ulcer-ation and stricture of the rectum are generally due to the development of condylomata within the bowel, andtheir subsequent stages of ulceration and cicatrisation,but this is very doubtful, although mucous patches inthe rectum do occasionally occur, and women seemmore liable to this affection than men. Occasionally,when the condylomata are extensive and ulceratedupon the surface from pressure, and accompanied bythickening of the surrounding tissues, the disease hasbeen mistaken for epithelioma.
