Description Timothy H. O'Sullivan (1840-1882) worked for Mathew Brady and Alexander Gardner as a photographer during the Civil War. During the late 1860s to mid 1870s, O'Sullivan participated in expeditions to the American West including the first government survey, Geological Explorations of the 40th Parallel, headed by Clarence King and Lt. George M. Wheeler's U.S. Geographical Surveys West of the 100th Meridian. O'Sullivan was married Laura Virginia Pywell (1850-1881), the sister of photographer William Redish Pywell (1843-1887), DeGolyer Library, Southern Methodist University
