Description

Port au Choix, Newfoundland. Lunch at the Anchor Café, the busiest restaurant in Port au Choix. If the presence of a Chinatown tour bus was any indication, this place is popular with organized tours heading to and from L'Anse aux Meadows; perhaps not surprisingly, Newfoundland culinary specialties like cod tongues, seal flipper pie, and partridgeberry pie (made with what folks elsewhere in the world call "lingonberries") were all over the menu. I, too, overcame my trepidation and got into the spirit; though the cod tongues had a strange texture and were hard to chew, I quite liked the partridgeberries. For once, I didn't begrudge the gawking tourists the photos they took of their food; they'll likely never see that sort of thing again in their lives.

Port-au-Choix, Terre-Neuve.
