Notiz auf dem Abzug: „street at Frankfort, gloomy day, 32 minutes in camera“ Hinweis: Talbots Abzug ist höchstwahrscheinlich seitenverkehrt. Der 1891 abgerissene Russische Hof befand sich auf der Nordseite der Zeil, siehe dazu auch ein Foto von Mylius, die Katharinenkirche hingegen auf der Südseite. Die Zeil verläuft in ost-westlicher Richtung zur Hauptwache; es ist von der Zeil aus daher nicht möglich, die Katharinenkirche rechts (nördlich) vom Hauptwachengebäude sehen, vgl. dazu auch Ravenstein 1861, Hauptwache. English: Westbound view from a window of the hotel "Russischer Hof" at the Zeil towards the Hauptwache, calotype. Note on the print: "street at Frankfort, gloomy day, 32 minutes in camera" Notice: Talbot's print is most likely mirror-sided. The Russische Hof, which was demolished in 1891, was on the north side of the Zeil, cf. a photo by Mylius, the Katharinenkirche lies south of the Zeil. The Zeil is runnig from east to west towards the Hauptwache, so the Katharinenkirche would never appear on the right side (north) of the guard-house at the Hauptwache, cf. also Ravenstein 1861, Hauptwache. |
