Summary edit

Description
English: Tan y Bwlch from the Air. These are former quarrymen's houses in Mynydd Llandegai. They were built by the Penrhyn Estate for their employees. Each cottage was provided with a long strip of land on which to grow vegetables and keep a cow and a few hens. This was an example of self-interested philanthropy on the part of the quarry owner, for it encourage sobriety by keeping the men occupied during their spare time and thus reduced the time spent in taverns and also provided subsitence in time of recession in the slate industry
