English: Tangram puzzles are believed to have originated in China. They consisted of a square cut into seven smaller pieces which can then be arranged to make a variety of pictures and designs. As a puzzle, the user typically looks at a silhouette of the finished picture, which does not show the individual pieces, then tries to figure out how to place each piece. Although usually played simply for enjoyment, the game also develops spatial skills. Here, a Lao high school student has completed several pictures. Tangrams is one of many interactive games and activities that Big Brother Mouse, a literacy projects, offers at its "Discovery Days" in Lao schools and youth centers.
