English: Nuno felting is a felting procedure and technique begun by Polly Stirling in the 90’s over in Australia.
The Japanese word for cloth is nuno and it is because this technique involves cloth, which then bonds natural fibers through creating a new fabric of lightweight felt, that the name was chosen . The wool fibres can totally cover the silk/cotton backing cloth or be used in such a way to create shape and texture within the fabric. The resulting fabric makes fabulous lightweight yet warm clothing. Other textural techniques can then take place within the perimeter of this new fabric such as shibori dyeing of the silk/cotton and wool. Fabric folding is also practiced. |
