Relevant de l'Abbaye de la Chaise Die, cette ancienne Eglise Catholique d'architecture Romane est dédiée à Saint-Christophe.

1571 : Saint-Christol et Saint-Genest-Lachamp marqués plus tard par les Guerres de Religions sont déclarés annexes de l'Eglise Réformée du Cheylard.

1632 : Les Réformés achètent une maison à "Ponsiac" pour en faire un temple.

1669 : Sa démolition est ordonnées sous le règne de Louis XVI.

1683 : Répression brutale sur les Protestants des Boutières : temples rasés, assemblées interdites, persécutions, gens qui abjurent ou s'exilent avant la révocation de l'Edit de Nantes en 1685.

1689 : Massacre par les Troupes Royales des Protestants enus célébrer leur "Assemblée" dans la clandestinité au Serre de la Palle.

1787 : L'Edit de Tolérance reconnaît le droit civil aux non catholiques, mais pas la liberté de culte, qui se pratique en plein aire.

1794 : La loi autorise la célébration des cultes protestants et catholiques dans les Eglises.

1807 : Les Catholiques étant peu nombreux, Napoléon 1er, après le Concordat, concède cet édifice aux Protestants. Copie de l'acte authentique à l'intérieur.

Sur le côté du temple une pancarte comporte le logo "Eglise protestante unie de France - Communion luthérienne et réformée"
