| Description |
English: Tewkesbury Station, with Great Malvern - Ashchurch train. View NW, towards Upton-on-Severn and Great Malvern; ex-Midland Ashchurch - Great Malvern branch. This one-coach train, which made only four trips a day - almost empty - to/from Malvern, is passing the unused 'Up' platform at Tewkesbury before reversing onto the other platform to continue on to Ashchurch: it did this because the 'Down' line north of here was just a siding, used for storage of wagons. [See my other photographs on the line]. The locomotive is ex-Midland Johnson 1P 0-4-4T No. 58071, still with original boiler and (unused) condenser (used in earlier years in London on the Metropolitan Tunnels). The line beyond Upton to Malvern was closed a year later, but Upton - Tewkesbury - Ashchurch lasted until 14/8/61 |
