Français : Pour expier l'insolence de sa mère qui s'était prétendue plus belle que les Néréides, Andromède est offerte en sacrifice à un monstre marin, qui approche à gauche. À la cruelle impassibilité des filles de Nérée s'oppose la terreur de la victime, qui sera délivrée par le héros Persée. Le tableau fut exposé au salon de 1841.
