| Description |
English: Thai Elephant Preservation Center is located at Barn Toon Kwien, Tumbol Vieng Tarn, Harng Chatra District, Lam Parng Province. It is under the supervision of Northern Forest Industry Division of the Forest Industry Organization (FIO). Originally it was an Elephant calf training center which is the first and the only training center in Thailand. It has been operating since B.E. 2512 (1969) to raise and trains elephant calfs to obey instruction and to have skills in forest industry works. Later on the government implemented a policy to close down the forest and this caused the unemployment of elephants. Therefore, this center has been renovated to become the center for elephant care and an elephant hospital. Then in B.E. 2535 (1992) the Forest Industry Organization established Thai Elephant Preservation Center and it became a tourist attraction. There are 2 rounds of elephant and elephant calfs shows every day at 10.00 and 11.00 and there is an additional round on Sunday at
13.30. In addition, it has become a natural tourist attraction with a variety of species of wood. |
