We had a 3 hour guided tour of The Alhambra in Granada. The site includes the Nasrite palaces and the Generalife pleasure palace. Also here is the Alcazaba, gardens and the Palace of Charles V. It is a <a href="http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/314" rel="noreferrer nofollow">World Heritage Site</a>. Alhambra, Generalife and Albayzín, Granada. <a href="http://wikimapia.org/4577047/Alcazaba-Fortress" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Alcazaba Fortress</a> The Alcazaba, a fortress, is the oldest part of the Alhambra, as is the case of the Vermilion Towers (Torres Bermejas). It is thought that before it was built and before the Muslims arrived to Granada, there were already several constructions in the same area. The first historical reference to the existence of the Alcazaba dates from the 9th century and it is believed that it was then built by Sawwar ben Hamdun during the fights between Muslims and muwalladins [Christians who converted to the Islam and lived among the Muslims]. Now into the Jardín de los Adarves (Garden of Adarves). <a href="http://wikimapia.org/22769545/es/The-Tower-of-gunpowder-Torre-de-la-P%c3%b3lvora" rel="noreferrer nofollow">The Tower of gunpowder (Torre de la Pólvora)</a> The Tower of gunpowder (Torre de la Pólvora) is classified as a small defensive tower, close to the Vela Tower (Torre de la Vela). It is the site where the gunpowder was kept , hence its name. |
