Greateraccuracy would seem to classify such casesas either osteitis deformans or leontiasisossium. Between the last-named andPagets disease the writer is of the opmionthat a differentiation could always bemade on the clinical findings. The distinc-tive point that obser\ers of osteomalaciabring out is that there is no enlargement of diaphyseal in location, while Pagets diseaseis not so limited. In the skull, syphilis shows such a defi-nite surrounding zone of reaction combinedwith such an obvious process of destruc-tion and repair as to distinguish it clearlyfrom osteitis deformans.
