| Description |
English: The Arcades A part of the western section of the city walls adjacent to Southampton Castle. Before the 100 Years' War with France, there were good houses and merchants shops along this part of the quay. However, they were attacked by the French in 1338. King Edward III overruled the locals and insisted on having a defensive wall built with the Arcades being built in front to carry a wall walk. This information is paraphrased from one of the noticeboards. |
