is, thofetv/o Defences will be a confiderable Obllrudion to the Befiegers, all the Time they are raifing Batteries ■on the Ridge of the Glacis to hlence them ; and byinfpefting Fig. i. it is evident the Covert-way cannot be taken till the Defences P and S are ruined,which cannot well be done (^as I faid before) till thegreateil Part of ihe Parapet 11 is throv/n down •, andparapet 11 may be m^ade lb large a Body of Earth,as to coft the Beiiegers much Time to deftroy it, evenin a dry Situation where Mines can be made •, but ifthere is Water to fill t)ie Ditch, fo that Mines cannotbemade, fuch a Parapet will very much retard theSiege. The Plates VI and VII being well underllood, it( in my Opinion ) v\fill appear that Ricochets andStones will have but little Elfeft upon the additional new * The Defence at S is nearly anfwering the Defence of aFaufe Bray, but is not liable to be enfiladed ; nor are the Troopsplaced there, liable to be drove out by Shells and Stones, as inA Kaufe Bray.
