Summary edit
DescriptionThe Danakil Depression.jpg |
English: In the northern part of the Afar Triangle lies the Danakil Depression. At about 125 meters below sea level, it's one of the lowest places on Earth. This area is also where the famous Australopithecus fossil Lucy was found and is often referred to as the cradle of humanity.
In the center from top-down, salt lakes Karum and Bakili are prominent, with Erta Ale volcano to the South East and Dallol sulfur springs to the North West. Image was captured by the Sentinel-2 satellite on May 3, 2020 courtesy CopernicusEU Earth observation programme. |
