ene instantly excited the gallantry of some of thespectators, who immediately espoused the Davenports side,and one of the prettiest free fights began that ever wasseen. It was one indiscriminate knock-down, all over thehouse; they chassez-e& and balanced, turned corners andreeled, squared to their partners, went down the outsideand up the middle, — oh, it was grand ! Among the peaceably disposed was a sea-captain, ratherold, and weighing about three hundred. He was enjoyingthe delightful time, when a burly fellow marched up, andlet him have it plump, and ding-dong, square between theeyes; and away he sailed, to mingle in the thickest of themelee, and in a minute more was banging away, right andleft, at anybody and everybody.
