The plantcarried two very fine spikes, the larger withmore than 740 flowers. Odontoglossum Queenof Gatton was awarded the second prize in theopen competition for the best specimen Odonto-glossum. Like BegoniaGloire de Lorraine, which was raised byVictor Lemoine, the new plant is derived fromB. socrotana. It comes into flower in December,and is at its best in January and February. Thenew hybrid has short upright stems, large, sub-stantial dark-green kidney-shaped leaves. Theflowers, borne in dense clusters on upright flower-stalks, are twice the size of those of Gloire deLorraine, almost a 1 male, of good shape, andof a rich shade of rose carmine.
