From the clinical standpoint, the Boston ConsumptivesHospital offers very good opportunities for the study of 72 tuberculosis. The ijublic health metliods used by the Hospitalin its anti-tul)ercul(>sis campaigns are of especial interest tothose interested in that work. The co-operation of the Boardof Health, and other organizations, helps immensely in thework of the Hospital. The care of 3800 patients in theirhomes by district nurses is no small part of the work. Lastyear 652 new cases were treated in the \arious wards.Twenty-two doctors are on the medical staff. A numl)er ofthe staff are instructors in the Harvard !\Iedical School.Sections of the class in the pathology course are assigned atintervals to assist in the mortuary. The Hospital is openat all times to interested physicians and medical students.

_) O U PSYCHOPATHIC HOSPITAL THE Psychopathic Hospital was authorized in 1909 bythe Legislature of Massachusetts and opened forpatients in 1912. The buildings and equipment cost$600,000; it receives an annual appropriation of $110,000.It is an integral part of the State Hospital system for thecare of persons ill with mental disease; but its scope goesbeyond mental disease in the narrow sense and includes allthe problems of mental hygiene which it attacks with theapproved methods of out-patient examination, social serviceinvestigation, family studies of syphilis, after-care of alco-holics and the like. The Hospital is equipped with modern appliances for thetreatment of medical and mental conditions and it acts tosome extent as a receiving station for other parts of theState Hospital system.
