| Description |
English: The History of Withernsea Pier, Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. A long bench close to the original entrance to the ill fated Withernsea pier. A timeline of metal tablets recounts the disastrous 25 year saga of maritime collisions and sinkings, with several fatalities, between the pier's opening in 1878 and final closure in 1903, by which time the structure was a mere 50 feet long, reduced from 1196 feet, having had sections taken away each time another accident occurred. History of the pier with historic pictures of how it looked at first and at last on Link. |
