Summary edit
DescriptionThe Kings Head Hotel, Salem Street, Amlwch - geograph.org.uk - 1091013.jpg |
English: The Kings Head Hotel, Salem Street, Amlwch The "head" commemorated here is that of "local boy made good" - Henry Tudor (Henry VII)- though he was born in Tenby. An austere, parsimonious and emaciated man, he stood in marked contrast to his gluttonous, spendthrift "Fat Boy" son, Henry VIII. The "Kings" dates back to the copper boom of the 18thC when Amlwch had one ale house to every four inhabitant and a countrywide reputation as the centre of every vice and iniquity. |
