English: The Last Day of 'Fares Fair' Ghostly figures buy their last cheap Underground tickets at Kings Cross - St Pancras Underground station on the day before fares rise drastically after the end of the 'Fares Fair' initiative. Killed by the Thatcher government after legal action by Bromley Council (Bromley had no Underground services), Ken LIvingstone's attempt to attract people onto public transport through low fares came to an end on the day this photograph was taken. |
