| Description |
English: These are one of the exhibits I most wanted to see on my London Museums trip a few weeks ago with my friend Mark. Many of the objects in all museums are of grand and ceremonial items but with these, there is a touch of the personal and intimate. You feel that these weren't for show but for real people to play with in those rare moments of recreation allowed within the Monastic life a thousand years ago.
I have put up 2 links, the first is 'The British Museum's website detailing how and where these items were found, the second relates to a favourite TV programme from my childhood 'Noggin the Nog.' Every time I see these pieces I feel they must have influenced Oliver Postgate when he was coming up with his characters for his latest animated masterpiece. Let me know what you think. |
