These aregathered on St. Patricks, or Peel Island, formerlyseparated from the mainland by a sea-channel sixtyyards across, but now reached by an extension of thewest quay. There one may see the Giants Grave, agreat funeral mound under which are believed to liesome mighty warriors of the later Stone Age. Therestands a roofless Round Tower, like those in Irelandand at Brechin and Abernethy in Scotland—probablya relic of the early Celtic Church. There the ruinsof St. Patricks Church, one of the oldest in the BritishIsles, testify to the early traditional connection of thepatron saint of Ireland with the Isle of Man.
