Summary edit

Description
English: Elizabeth Mader, U.S. Economics Officer with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, rough measures a timber log in a downtown holding site in Asadabad, Afghanistan, Nov. 13, 2009. There is currently a ban on cutting new timber in Afghanistan, and members of Provincial Reconstruction Team-Kunar based at Camp Wright and the Department of State stopped at the timber yard to ask locals how the timber industry works for locals and how Afghans might prosper if the ban was lifted. This particular tree was estimated to be more than 150 years old and was cut under Taliban Law prior to 2002, which allowed for massive deforestation of the country side. (Photo ID: 223410)
