DescriptionThe MacNab, Francis MacNab (1734–1816), 12th Laird of MacNab, by Henry Raeburn, 1802.jpg |
English: "The MacNab", Francis MacNab (1734–1816), 12th Laird of MacNab, by Sir Henry Raeburn, 1802. He is wearing civilian attire, with a military bonnet. Some sources (e.g. the Clan MacNab Society [1]) incorrectly describe him in a uniform, of a lt.-col., and of the Breadalbane Fencibles. That's all wrong. It is not a uniform, MacNab was a major, and he was in the 1st Battalion (Breadalbane Highlanders), of the 2nd Royal Peterhshire Brigade (Breadalbane Volunteers), easily confused with Breadalbane Fencibles. (See John Telfer Dunbar, The History of Highland Dress, 1979, p. 185.) |
