Summary edit
DescriptionThe Main Drive to Plas Bryncir - geograph.org.uk - 258849.jpg |
English: The Main Drive to Plas Bryncir The Bryncir estate was originally owned by the Bryncir family of Ystumcegid SH4942, but was purchased in 1809 by an Englishman, Joseph Huddart, who developed the estate, building a large mansion, a network of, very straight, roads, a bridge over the Dwyfor, lodges and 'The Tower' - a grandiose folly. He spent money wisely on developing the land and on flood prevention measures, and unwisely in mining ventures. For some unknown reason, after his death, his son, George, the father of ten children, took off with the family in the 1890s, never to return. The house was literally left to go to rack and ruin and became so dangerous that, after WWII, an order was made for its demolition. |
