CLODIO BLASTO CLODIUS BLASTUS FIL. PATRI DVLCISSIM[O] B.M.F. ET CLODIA CHARIS CONIVGI B.M.F. This funeral altar was carved on the initiative of the son of Claudius Vlasto, namesake of his father in his honor and that of his wife Claudia Charis. Although the inscription is in Latin and the names have been Latinized, the name "Charis" is Greek and means "Thanks", indicating by this that the Greek origin of these two characters is well proven. C.Kérofilas, indicates that the use of the letter "B" instead of the "V" of "Vlasto" undoubtedly proves the antiquity of the statue and it is very certain they had to belong to "a branch the great Greek family established early in Rome " CIL VI 15707 |
