English: The Midland Hotel The hotel was built by Charles Trubshaw in 1898-1903 for the Midland Railway Company. It is situated next to the Manchester Central (formerly the G-Mex Centre and originally the Manchester Central railway station), the Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Central Library. It is made of red brick and brown terracotta, with the exterior clad in several varieties of polished granite and Burmantofts (a type of terracotta)and is grade II* listed. It was here that isfamous for being the meeting place of Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce leading to the formation of Rolls-Royce Limited in 1906. |
