Summary edit

Description
English: The Mitre Hotel It was from this hotel one Saturday afternoon in the summer of 1936 that a number of local unemployed men emerged to disrupt a protest rally held on Y Maes by Saunders Lewis and the fledgling Plaid Cymru movement in protest at the building of RAF Penrhos SH3334. They shouted to Lewis "Go back home to the South. You have a well paid job, we are starving". Feelings against the rally had been running high in the town for some days. This had caused sufficient concern to the Chief Constable of Caernarvonshire for him to take the then extraordinary step of sending four officers to police the rally. In the resulting melee the platform party went down. Subsequently, Nationalists claimed that these men had been plied with drinks at the Mitre by sinister forces.
