FRED B. DEBERVILLE. ALPHATAU OMEGA PALM. Vol. XVIII. JANUARY, 1898. No. 2. FRATERNITY LIFE AT CORNELL. IN no other large university in the country is the fraternity lifesimilar to that at Cornell. This fact is perhaps due to the ab-sence of university dormitories. At Yale and at Harvard as wellas at other large universities, the students are offered the bestappointed of rooms in any one of a great number of fairlyequipped dormitories. Once installed therein, the student is con-scious of a feeling of proprietorship that gradually endears therooms to him and frees him from any desire to leave them for ahome outside. He at first becomes acquainted with men on hisown floor, but gradually he meets all those in his own dormitory,and necessarily a close friendship ensues with some of them.He drops in on them at all hours and they come over on lazynights to help him consume rare bits and other edibles of thestudent diet.
