omes on a more modest scale thanusual. In 1914, however, the city willpossess two ten-story buildings which arenow in course of erection. The publicbuildings are of a substantial nature. Thehome of the Provincial Government is thelargest of any of the Provincial Governmentbuildings in Canada, and, modelled on theEnglish Renaissance style of architecture,offers a pleasing and dignified appearance.Built of limestone, the edifice is in theform of a cross, 542 ft. long and 280 ft.across at its widest part. In the centre adome rises to a height of 187 ft. and iscovered with burnished copper. Thebuilding stands in the Government Park, ofwhich the beautifully treed grounds slopedown to the banks of Wascana Lake. ThePost Office, a substantial and handsomebuilding, is centrally situated and con-veniently arranged, whiie of the municipalbuildings the city hall is one of the finestin Western Canada. These occupy anarea of one hundred acres, and during theannual Dominion Exposition are well filledwith agricultural implements and farm pro-duce. A large racecourse surrounds thegrounds and the grand stand affords accom-modation for many thousands. To the westof the town are the barracks of the North-West Mounted Police, the scene of theexecution of the rebel Louis Riel in1885. The city is strongly in favour of themunicipal ownership of public utilities.The street railway, when the projectedextensions have been consummated, willserve every part of the city. Water isobtained from springs situated eight milesaway, where a dam and reservoir have beenconstructed with a capacity of over100,000,000 gallons.
