Summary
editDescriptionThe Puggie Line - geograph.org.uk - 31976.jpg |
English: The Puggie Line. Glen Spean above Monessie looking over to snow capped Creag Dubh(658m). The remains of a narrow gauge railway can be seen, nicknamed the Puggie Line it was the maintenance railway for the British Aluminium Company's Ben Nevis Pipeline, taking water from Loch Laggan and Loch Treig to Fort William to generate the electricity required to reduce aluminium oxide to aluminium metal. Now landrover tracks allow access to the pipeline and the railway has decayed away. Building wooden trestles above high gorges with untreated timber did not help. The route can still be followed, but it's hard work climbing up and down these ravines. |
