certainly is taken from Mozarts Magic Flute; but the variationsthemselves we cannot, as the equi-vocal nature of the title implies,ascribe to that great composer ; al-though the whole is devised and puttogether in a style of neatness andpropriety, which need not to havedeterred the author of the arrange-ment from affixing his name to hisshare of the labour. The varia-tions are extremely fluent and ele-gant : in the first we notice thepleasing connection of its passages ;the second is conspicuous for itswell arranged bass accompaniment;much spirit and precision prevailin the fourth ; and the delicacy ofexpression in the fifth challenge*
