The following is taken from the description kindly left by Derby Museum:

The Repton Stone

Part of an 8th-century Anglo Saxon cross which once stood outside the church at Repton.

This scene represents the mouth of Hell. A monster with a human head and a serpent's body devours two human figures . They are dressed in knee-length breeches with cross-gartered legs.
