| Description |
English: The Resting House remains on Middle Hill These ruins marked on the Explorer Map as Resting House (remains of) are traditionally thought to be where monks and pilgrims used to stop for refreshment on their travels between Melrose and Edinburgh by the Girthgate, an ancient road over the hills. The fragment of the remaining southeast wall suggests that the inside of the building was barrel vaulted. This was also the final resting place for a pregnant ewe on the right that unfortunately expired near the ruins. |
