Summary edit

Description
English: The Shiraz Hotel, Brick Lane This used to be the Frying Pan public house as attested by the crossed frying pan motif and lettering picked out of the brickwork in terracotta bas relief. It was here, at the end of August 1888, that the first of the recognised Ripper victims, Mary Ann Nichols, spent her last evening drinking the money she had earned on the streets. The pub, now a curry house and hotel, stands on the corner of Thrawl Street where she stayed in a common lodging house.
