With a single exception—and that byreason of absences in England last year—each of the committees to reportshowed that a really great amount ofwork had been done, and a forward steptaken. Yet in no case was it possible tolook upon the report as final, and eachcommittee was continued. It was shownthat all existing hymnals had been care-fully compared, and though there wasstrong opposition to any such adoptionof a hymnal for common use as wouldtend to stop the production of new hymns—especially by the Chinese—it wasfound possible to arrange that thereshould be compendiums made that wouldnot do this. The Committee on Special Serviceshad collected all extra Prayer Book ser-vices in use and compared them; they arenow to draw up forms for common useand to prepare new services for certainother occasions.

For the Church newspaper, the Kev.John W. Nichols, who has been theeditor, could show the sixteenth number,and with support guaranteed and thehelp of a Chinese writer provided, thepaper was carried beyond the experi-mental stage. The Church Literature Committeepresented an admirable report in a con-venient form. List I. gives a completecatalogue of books and tracts by Churchauthors—the Bible and commentaries,biblical subjects, prayer books, history,theology, hymnals and calendars.
