Summary edit
DescriptionThe Statue of General José de San Martín in Plaza San Martin, Lima.jpg |
English: José Francisco de San Martín Matorras – José de San Martín for short – was born in northeast Argentinia in 1778, the son of a Spanish soldier and administrator. He was educated in Spain, and fought in the Spanish Army during the Peninsular War. In 1812 he returned to South America and fought against the Spanish in Argentina, Chile and Peru alongside other liberators such as Bernardo O'Higgins and Simon Bolivar.
By the mid 1820's San Martin had fallen out with Bolivar and was back in Europe. He spent time in England, Belgium and Paris before settling in Boulogne-sur-Mer near Calais where he died in August, 1850. |
