Summary edit
DescriptionThe Top of Cotton Plane at Cottonplain - geograph.org.uk - 779033.jpg |
English: The Top of Cotton Plane at Cottonplain The tiny hamlet of Cottonplain is at the top of the Cotton inclined plane on the 1804 plateway that carried limestone from Caldon Low quarry to the Caldon Canal at Froghall. The plateway was replaced by a railway in 1847 but many traces remain, such as the embankment pictured here and some of the stone sleepers that the L-shaped plates were pinned to. |
