English: The Yorkshire Grey So close to the corner of the gridsquare as to make accurate positioning dubious.
The site has been occupied by licensed premises since 1678, when it would have stood among fields. It was substantially rebuilt in 1898 as a large and prosperous hotel catering particularly for members of the legal profession. It is now a Grade II listed building. "It is surmounted by an elevated structure at dormer level which has at its centre what has been termed 'an inflated tin soldier on horseback'. This is said to have been executed at the time the building was constructed and is probably the eponymous Yorkshire Grey, a massive breed of Shire Horse used in medieval times to carry knights encased in heavy armour."
