Summary edit

Description
English: The beach at Auchmithie. Even on a relatively calm day, the North Sea swell will produce enough wave action to rattle the pebbles on the beach.

It was here that I understood what Matthew Arnold was talking about in his poem "Dover Beach":-

Listen! you hear the grating roar Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, At their return, up the high strand, Begin, and cease, and then again begin, With tremulous cadence slow, and bring

The eternal note of sadness in.
