Summary edit
DescriptionThe double-deck sanctuary in St Nicholas's Church, Compton - geograph.org.uk - 92287.jpg |
English: The double-deck sanctuary in St Nicholas's Church, Compton. The chancel on the ground floor has a beautifully decorated Norman arch and a vaulted ceiling. The railings are Jacobean. The original purpose of the second sanctuary upstairs is not known. It was inserted after the church was built, but the railing is Norman, probably the oldest architectural wood-carving in an English church. |
