Near the middle of the area, is a low altarTomb, inlaid with Brass, in memory of Eleanordk Bohun, Duchess of Gloucester, wife ofThomas of Woodstock, youngest son of EdwardIII, whose unfortunate end has been related in theaccount of his grave-stone in St. Edwards Chapel.This Lady, after the treacherous arrest and baseassassination of her husband, retired to BarkingNunnery, in Essex, where she passed theremainderof her days in sorrowful widowhood, and died onthe 3d of October, 1399. She is represented aslying under a rich canopy of three divisions, in awidows dress, with a long cloak drawn over theshoulders by a cordon : under her head are twoembroidered cushions. On the buttresses whichappear to support the canopy, are five shields ofarms ; a sixth has been removed.
